In an upside-down garden

0 posted 2006-05-24 03:44 PM

Once-
I parted my hair along the middle,
darks strands falling to my cheek,
and I looked straight at the camera
took the desperate puddle leap into
the murky groves of water, and I let
myself be swallowed by the city

floating-
lifeless on her back.

And the sidewalks, they
cracked open, scraping piggle-wiggle
toes along the clay-stone bricks
of older times than I could hope
to recall,

to remember you through
whimsical words
floating softly to

ears that do not care to hear
the creeping hallway tourists
sleeping baggage cart proceeding
to the breakfast buffet,
and I told you

today,
I will not go.

You carried, down the stairs
bowling ball, in bag,
impaired, slightly swaying
to the music from the streets

and now, I'll speak,
the words I heard that day
from the pushbroom man,
a'singin' songs Ah
surely never heard before-

Ah, Good mornin' to ya darlin',
take me back to those dirt streets
rub my shirt sleeves in the puddles
and my heels in the mud, oh

Let me stay.

it's like reading the start of a book...one you know you won't be able to put down

I liked this so much, I wished it was longer!

You paint a portrait well with your pen
and imagination,  your mind spilling out
trinkets by the second.  Well done.

Thanks for a most interesting read. For some reason your style reminds me of Tom Waits; maybe it's your images of the city. There are many interesting lines in this work. I like.
