Just A Sinking Stone

I didn’t want
to be an affair
my heart is worth more
than that
a skipping stone
on waters edge
that sank
after so thoughtlessly
tossed
and held so close
to your heart
yet, never allowed
to touch it
like the reeds
that played hollow
muddy in the sound
of my echo laying
just below the surface
but never seen
tell me is passion
a past tense verb
in you
always meant
for someone
else
in laying I lied
again to my heart
that I wouldn’t fall
but I did
helplessly
knowing full well
I could not stop the toss
nor could I stop
the throw
and no prayer could
make it fly

** for Susan...for you KNOW what i know

just some words cut out
from the diary of my heart

Helen, I am sure Susan will love this precious gifting of your pen.  From one of my favorite poets to another, with such heart.

Helen, I am so sorry I didn't see this sooner..

there are not words to express how your words touch that part of me that I try keep buried.  Your words hit on the feeling so intimately and truthfully.

Thank you.  This is a very beautiful gift.
