BARBARO, A CHAMPION

For all people who love horses
(And not many people don’t)
We all hope Barbaro will survive
But the chances are, he won’t.

After “The Derby” victory
Looked like his chances were good
To winning “The Triple Crown”
And there’s many felt he could.

Even with the great technology
And Veterinarian medicine
Even if he should survive
He’ll probably never race again.

A brief career that gave us thrills
Who ran each race with all his heart
So sad it all has come to an end
At “The Preakness”, at the start.

Sometimes the odds can be beat
But this handicap is rarely won
We can only hope for a miracle
And hope more races will be run.

I had to have a horse named Roban II
put down many years ago and one
of the hardest things I ever had to do.

Beautiful tribute. Very sad. Yes, to put down a beloved friend is nearly unbearable and friends they are!

Love,

Bernardini wouldnt have beat him..should they have put him back in the stalls after he burst through them?...I believe he is heavily sedated in order to try and save him for stallion duties..thank you for this fine tribute..such a fine horse..

Update to this...Barbaro is to undergo hours of surgery in an attempt to stabilise the fractures to his ankle bone, he has two..one above and one below...then they have to ensure the two arteries that supply blood to that area are not impeded..then hopefully he will mend quicker..a long way to go though..hope he makes it..GR...

Ah that lovely boy. He ran so beautifully, with the wind on his feet. It was so hard to see him like that. Thank you for this tribute Abe.
