Inked thoughts in delicate scrawl
tuckaway, tuckaway
Missed he is in her recall
tuckaway, tuckaway
First letter sent was returned
yet into her memory, his memory burned
tuckaway, tuckaway

She no longer knew the where
she no longer knew the why
she did not know ... did not know
yet for many nights she cried

Years, in their passing,
bring tears to brim
when she writes of missing him
In cedared chest she places them
tuckaway, tuckaway
Such sorrow in the sad lament
letters written ... never sent
tuckaway, tuckaway

She passed after years of longing
then when he heard of her demise
he came to honor her memory
with teardrops in his eyes
He had not known the where
he had not known the why
he did not know ... did not know
how many nights she had cried

Family gave him the cedared chest
found tucked among her things
of all the teardrops he had known
reading her love letters
left the greatest sting

Had he but known ... but he did not
what joy they could have shared
He had not known where to find her
yet, for all of those same years,
he had also cared

War time brings a measure of sadness
when loved ones are torn apart
Often life moves lovers slowly on
forgetting where they left their hearts

He gently caresses the letters
reading them every night
finding out years too late
she kept her promise to him
to foreverly wait~

Now in his lonely heart
fond memories come to play
one love ... one love
tuckaway ... tuckaway~

I so greatly appreciate each kind response~
Sometimes I am *gifted* with words that come from the heart of another ... they circle and land in my inking well ... they swell until they press their way onto the page for sharing~

The arrival of this new muse of thought is a blessing to me~

She was/is real ... he was/is real~
That the thoughts would flow to me is a mystery ... yet a welcomed challenge of channeling~
I am simply 'receptor' ... my mission, as I know it to be, is to share~

Thank you all~

This is an amazing piece of writing. It shows such emotion, and really leaves you with a sense of despair. I feel as if I can personally feel every thing your characters can. Great job.

Marge,

When thinking about separation of Love and Lovers caused by war, your poem is very sad, but, at the same time, in spite of war, it's a great witness of a loving couple's devotion to each other and how enduring Love truly is. Enjoyed reading.

God bless.

Margie, this was a heartwarming story, and much reminded me of Sunshine's new book...
loved this and your mind, how it blends like secrets spawning out words on the pages of truth...

Hugs and thank you

So sweet and sad....war brings so many casualties, and not only on the battlefield. Is this a true story, Marge?

Yes ... she was real and he is real ... such a tender story told in fragments from a gentleman who now resides in a local nursing home~
He *gifted* me with his thoughts ... and I am eternally grateful that my new muse listened~

Thanks all~
