White Picket Fences

Yesterday I came to the realization
that I really don't care anymore.

There's beauty now where hatred once laid restless
there's calm that I no longer want to smash the faces in
of lovers on the screen, of those with no pain, only gain.
Now I laugh, stripping skin off skin
numb is acceptance
and fairytales are boring, too predictable;
What a fool I've been, typical mass-produced female
wanting the white picket fence
and roses without the thorns.

Love has a funny way of picking favourites
of dealing an ugly hand to one
and supplying the white paint to another without strings.
I guess in this lifetime I'm it's puppet in play
and now I know the sadness of becoming strangers
from the marriage that hope and I used to hold.

I used to think that everyone
had their chance to paint the white over the black
that everyone found a love that would last
that God understood this vital kiss to survive;
What a cliche I am, typical mass-produced dreamer
loyal to a possibility that isn't loyal to me.

But, I've learned that God does build white picket fences afterall
and the piece from it that He's given me
is big enough, sharp pointed spear
to pierce through my heart,
white enough to soak up the blood
of dreams left to die.

yep
one womans white
becomes another woman's dagger

tides do turn thankfully
cherish the day

Melissa, again you have given us such an incredibly well written piece, poignant and so full of depth.

This part of it??

"Love has a funny way of picking favourites
of dealing an ugly hand to one
and supplying the white paint to another without strings.
I guess in this lifetime I'm it's puppet in play
and now I know the sadness of becoming strangers
from the marriage that hope and I used to hold."

darn, you've expressed this so well, in a way that I never could, but most definately wish I could have, and most definately I know this particular ache all too well...
Hugs to you Melissa...

Excellent is all I'll say

I was going to reply but walked away

Now I rejoice

In your words

That say and stay

For the moment

That passion

Heats

Like a meal

Cooked on rare

Moulded with an inlaw's stare

That feared one thing

Above all else

That you

Would be

Better

Than

Themselves

Thank you everyone for your wonderful replies!

This is an oldie that I've revised, and I'll thus consider it as my final polished copy now

You took this into its compleat
circle...and then stood the circle
on its end.

So, so very glad you've come back

Melissa....Oh yes, I wanted that white picket fence too...then realized something about change.  Wishing you peace as time moves.
