This is from a Julie Sulzen painting challenge so I hope you enjoy!

The Steeple

On a solemn lonely hill stood a beacon of hope
A guide in the dark when there was nothing at all
And as the demons crept up on the lone flash of light
they were forced back by a love
the love of a friend

This figure, shrouded in darkness, but full of life
had pushed back with his heart and won them over with his eyes
for in those eyes was the past and the future
the past of his trials and the future of his love

He may not have been a saint or godly soul
but more importantly he listened and helped ease their pain
So as each demon came another angel rose
Rose up to guide the souls of the damned
to help make them realize a truth long forgotten

That most people think they're no good at all
when really God's beacon accepts everyone,
even his foes.

The challenge to write your interpretation of someone else's work of art has been nicely met!
