Carrie

Carrie,
narcotics and alcoholics are blue like your eyes
tonight, the taxis are running through my veins like golden trains
and the trail of a comet is my thin disguise
on the verge, a simple urge
a nervous breakthrough to you
but it's just a crash landing to me
oh Carrie

Baby,
destruction and malfunction inside my body tonight
watch as the stars break into cars and sing in seedy downtown bars
the loveliness of this place is quite a fright
look at me, I'm starting to see
that you, in your coterie of confessions
is my life's lessons to better the soul in me
oh baby

Oh jump into the sprinklers
and soft wrinkles time has painted on you
Carrie, the world is yours, girl,
give it a whirl, and twirl in the light that runs through
straight to the heart of the moment
time is limitless and you won't make a dent
on your body if you steer clean through the clouds
city crowds and men who scream out loud for you
winding you up, letting you go
still so much to know
about the way your heart operates
feel it soar as your dream seperates
and becomes its own living thing
baby it's beautiful, what you bring
into the world tonight
such a shimmering yellow light
guide me home

Carrie,
idiotic are the robotic movements of lovers lost under covers
with nary a wonder to who each other is at the end of the hearts that bend
into the shape of eyes and lies from mouths that gape for the escaping lovers
into the single life, sans husband and wife, but oh you long to be loved
in the deep heart of darkness, you'll never get enough
of the things you call sacred and perfect and oh so pretty
oh baby
but I know, within the come and go,
the truth about you:
somebody will see your light
and come to call it their own
somebody will hush the night
and carry you home
Carrie, let it carry you home

Skeptical outlook in the beginning and a comforting turn in the end. Appreciated this work. I just finished reading "11 minutes" by Paulo Coelho and your poem recalls that situation, quite powerfully.

Love,
Margherita
