Do You Have The Time
By Paul Wilson

Do you have the time…the stranger asked me
as I walked by with my head hung low
Teardrops were falling softly from my eyes
a river of tears no end to their flow

I stopped… looked around and my eyes found his
which were cold and dark staring back at me
He looked familiar in a strange sort of way
and I wondered…who could this stranger be

Pardon me sir are you talking to me
and he said again… do you have the time
I looked at the timepiece that I wore
strangely the hands had stopped their forward climb

Sorry sir it seems my watch is broken
I said slowly approaching the stranger
That’s not the type of time I meant
I am here to warn you of grave danger

Do I know you I asked and he said yes
but we’ve never met before this day
How can that be… do you think I’m crazy
or is this some game you’re trying to play

Young man he said would you come sit with me
I will show you the future thru my eyes
If you’re willing to forget about time
and follow me on this journey please rise

Laughing at him I turned to walk away
wait he said… don’t go I have much to share
Don’t walk away from your future my friend
the time to change is now or don’t you care

Skies got dark and future began to flow
thru my eyes…visions of what was to be
I turned away frightened in disbelief
trying to run but his power held me

I’ve climbed the highest mountains with no fear
and even sailed the seven seas my friend
Visions you've shown me thru your eyes today
will guide me on journey soon to begin

A ponderful moment you had, Paul.
To change pace, sense of direction...
not an easy thing to do, at any point in time.

I like the subject matter in this piece.  Time, our most precious possession, is all too often wasted and unappreciated.  Thanks for sharing this.

Very awesome.

Yanno? I can always tell who works very hard on their poetry from those who only are here for the beer. (The beer ain't bad, mind you, but...)

I remember your first post, and watched you grow and grow, and now this--you KNOW I love story poems--this is terrific work Paullie!

And my new latest favorite from you.

I do believe you made time stand still.

Kacy...Thanks for the read, I appreciate it...Paul

sandgrain... You are so right about time be precious and wasted. Thanks for understanding and taking time to read and reply...Paul

Dixie...Glad you think so. Thank you for your kind words.Glad you enjoyed this..Paul

Serenity...I hope that someday maybe I will be worthy of your praises. You really made me smile with the comment about the beer.
I started this about a year and a half ago with the intention of making it into a long drawn out story. I didn't know how I wanted it to end so I just put it aside till yesterday when I ran across it while going back thru some old poems and decide to go the short route and wrote the last two verses.

I really appreciate your reply very much and yanno I will keep trying...Paul

Sue....All is well dear friend. It is very nice hearing from you. I miss reading your poems but I know how busy life can be. Thanks for taking time to read and reply...Paul
