At its dead end
they confronted
passageways stopped
behind canisters
under barbed-wire
between the oxidized
sun baked bricks
commoners used ovens
threw bony remains
whiskers twitched
to defend rights
others challenged
it was conflict
in squalor
before a single orange
found in the rubble
shared
a radioactive richness
of no consequence.

Where cats used to roam
for fishy extracts
fowl limbs
dangling from lids
of darkened passageways
between brick rows
felines conflicted
smaller scale rights
tested
in the squalor
of unpaid tenaments.,
and tide clean laundry
