JAZZ VAPOURS
11 November 2001

Like a train on a bridge skyline
in a soft glow sunset
lazy jazz fingers slip
note
by
singing
note
into my waiting soul
and loosen taut threads
and spin them
into spider-fine
molten gold harmony
that weaves through
the pathways
of my thirsty tapestry.

I ejoyed this short piece.  I love the old jazz, Miles, Coltran, Ellington, etc... hopefully some day the notes will slip into my soul as well.

A work of art is needed to be long or short, the only importance is for us to gain the messages and emotions given out by the poem. Which was really well done in this one. Great read

I really enjoy your style both with your poetry and the way you think.

I have added you to the short list of pip people I would like to sit down with and spend a few hours getting to know and listening to stories.  (and no, none of them get a choice in the matter....)

I do believe, lady, that you are so much more "serene" than I.

Oh Diana, those "lazy jazz fingers" have worked there way into my soul. A dreamy write.

Thank you Jack Straw.  I know exactly nothing about jazz, but I think it is highly intellectual and needs to be listened to (as all good music) note by note.  I don’t remember what that particular piece was called (and I would only have known if it had been announced – it was on television -  or who was playing it, nor even on what instrument it was played), but what I will never forget is my intense desire to imbibe the fullness of each note as it was played.

Thank you Kacy.  I particularly love the piano and particularly classical music, so I would imagine that I would also particularly love classical jazz piano music.  I haven’t much experience in listening to jazz – I didn’t use to like it when I was young – but that was because I didn’t take the time to listen to it - but when I listen to it now, there is some that transports me into a world where there is only music and my extreme delight in the cleverness of the “composition” (I am told that a lot of it’s variations are off the cuff).

Oh, yes, of course, Magnus, you may join me.  I can’t remember the music, but I remember the effect it had on me and I, too, am sure it would have taken the twang out of your strang!

Thank you Windwalker.  I know nothing about jazz, but I think there is an incredible amount to learn about it and I would love to.  I am taking more time to listen to it properly and discovering that what you say is true.  Some of it is certainly very beautiful and (probably) all of it is very, very cleverly composed/played.

Thank you juj1.  I am glad you enjoyed it.

Thank you Nancy.  I’m glad you thought so.

Thank you passing shadows.  I know the feeling of nearly having missed a poem which I enjoy.

Susan, I am honoured and delighted at what you say – and don’t need a say in the matter!  It feels good to know that somebody out there would like to get to know me and listen to my stories.  The feeling is mutual.  You are a very interesting person.

RedStone, I haven’t “changed” my style.  Firstly, as you will see from the date, this was written in 2001, and secondly, I write in many different styles.  Perhaps you have only read a few of the poems I have posted here which would lead you to believe that I have only one style.  I’m not sure what you mean by a “choked” style, but glad you liked that style anyway.

serenity blaze, sometimes I am serene, and most of the time I try to be, but sadly all too often, I am not.

Thank you Kate.  I am so glad they did.  Yes, it was a dreamy experience too.
