To Be Back Home

My stomach still burns and churns
though I've long departed ways
from the spirits I needed for living.
What was life without the alcohol haze?

I know how I stopped no more
than I know how I began,
the only answer provided me
is that it was in God's plan.

And she was a different person
who I'll never meet again,
gone but not forgotten, for
there is destruction where she'd been.

And now this is me, I'm here today
with all my lessons that were hard to learn,
considering that I should be dead,
though my gut will always burn and churn
with all the things I've done and said...

I am grateful to be back home.

I needed some inspiration so I borrowed a line:

Gone but not forgotten
returned in kind
Days left over
dried pasta upon a dirty plate

Another day, a weak gone bye
where was sweet, that love to hold
Thoughts and diversions
the tide having gone out

Heaven, was that for death
tranquillity yours to share
A heart made distant to living
words exchanged upon the wind

Again, forever, nothing lost
her beauty was divinity
Perhaps there was love
to remind oneself life was alive

all I need is a title, and a psalm/poem was born

a poet who cares

It is so good to see your words when I come in here.  I'm glad you're home, DixieGirl.  It's funny -- I look back at 20 years ago, and I know excatly what you mean.  There is no going back to that person.   ....jo

Oh, the things our prodigal hearts convince us we need!  It can sure make the green green grass of home look good, if once we can just find the steps back again.
