my life:
it is a parody of continuity,
a sinuous slithering silent approach
to an answer without question;

42, eureka! the answer is 42!

Doug quoted someone when he said that,
might even have been himself,
though i don't remember what it was about,
since i was only looking at the pictures,
not reading the words.

------

there is no answer...

at least no true answer.
it all devolves to minutes and days,
sighs and exultations;
porn star or school marm,
the sun still shines down on your freckled head
and burns a tattoo of shattered halos
into the tender skin of vain hopes.

------

i wonder, at moments like these,
when i'm sitting in the dark,
dreaming of depressions and diasporas,
if i've resigned | consigned | myself
to the mediocrity of reality -
to the reality of mediocrity -

day-to-day-to-day-to-day
today is just that, to-day.

there is light, there is air.

need more?
so do i, my friend, so do i.
but i've nothing left to lose
that doesn't come in a fortune-cookie,
telling me things're gonna get better...
one way or t'other.

guess we'll see.

------

one can tell me i have no basis for complaint:
job [for how long?]
wife [poor thing, stuck with me]
kid [concussion boy!]
house [don't even get me started]
food [overrated]
car [truck]

keep going, i can list them off for days.
does that make it better, though,
when some of the happiest times remembered
are those of turmoil and tribulations?

no, not better, though perhaps different.

i am different.
i am difference.
i am rambling,
but that's fine, since you're still reading
and probably wrinkling your eyebrows
into a questioning (cockeyed) shape,
while wondering whatthehellishetalkingabout?

if it's any consolation,
i wonder that all the time.
and if i ever find that answer,
i'll be sure to remind you of the question as well.

------

i am sighted,
hearing,
breathing, walking,
moving,
and yet...

life drags at times,
buries my legs in the muddy slop of stressors and repressors.
if i had a chance, i'd float.
but my name's not Clark -
which is fine, since the Kents were far too nice
for my sense of sarcasm to ever feel comfortable.

If it's any consolation I think many walk the same rambling path as you do here and, yes, we all want more as well until we become "resigned to mediocrity".  I read from beginning to end and enjoyed the read!  Don't have any answers though.

a master-piece of words.....I could read you for hours and never get bored....

I am not looking for answers, not anymore....I, too, would just settle for the cookie explaining it all... love how you say what you say....

And so it those we live with
and should know who elude us
But we can still love them
we can love completely
without complete understanding

You almost lost me until that last verse...in fact, I found myself frowning at "parody of continuity"

because continuity is both a precious gift and lead in yer shoes...and smile? I had this image of you loosening if not taking off a tie before you wrote this.

But that's another poem.
