Listening to every heart

0 posted 2006-04-30 11:26 PM

What Was

What was that show,
or was it a play, perhaps
a skit…something about

a brain, unplugged.

So much can fill a brain.

Thought alone, troubles,
alone,
things that are not
mineral, vegetable, but
intangible.

So much can fill a brain.

Yet, we [you, and I] talk, whisper,
fear, abhor writer’s block.

And sometimes we cannot discern
why this mountain is but a heart
still in hold yet
desires to leap, what is with the
stay, come, listen, I am not
imagining things…

something is wrong
but nothing shows.

Little Words.
I know.
Something is wrong.
I feel.
Odd.
Snippets of honest.
Tracks evaporate.
I come around.
Calendar weight
could decide different.

I knew I confided.
But to whom?
Do they understand?
Will who I was
come home again?

~*~

Any answer to the above,
if not a yes, could be,
should be,
when on the cusp of moon
as it leaves
as it returns;
so shall

she,

and then,

I.

Thank you for this very intimate, interesting wandering through your mind.  I can relate very well.  The questioning, wondering, vascilating analyses, not being able to put a finger on it, but knowing it (something? what thing?) - is there - or not there - reaching out for the elusive what? . . .

Thinking - no matter whether positively or negatively - enriches us, deepens us - and no, I don't think it is possible to return to the same . . . but that it is sometimes possible to reach a better, wiser, unimagined result . . . wishing you the courage, wisdom, determination, hope, faith and tranquility to do so.

Your Critique thingy says: "Tell me what pulled you in here to read, and what you may be taking away . . ."  What pulled me in is firstly that it was YOUR poetry; secondly the fascination of the title - it held so many possibilities - I expected it to be purely nostalgia, which I would have enjoyed immensely, but as it so happened I enjoyed this more than immensely.  What I am taking away is a pausing in my life, in my thought, and a feeling of being older (and I love being old - I am 60 - and love even more being older)and wiser and a little sadder (though I can't put my finger on exactly why) and deeper and more enriched.  Thank you for the experience.

"And sometimes we cannot discern
why this mountain is but a heart"

Sometimes the stone of mountains are very soft and molten at the center...

Will who I was come home again?"

Karilea, this just leaves me re-reading in awe!  Parts of me  seem lost forever, and you pen such grace to thoughts I can't speak or write.  This is a stunning poem, truly lovely.
