I am Brother John, another new member of this family. This is my first poem. In my retirement, I have tried to write some poetry.I have found the sonnet form best expresses what I feel and the way I want to convey it.All my poems are unfinished and I invite all to help me express my thoughts better.I have had many dreams which have become the core of some poems. The following is one:

THE ARMORED CAR

Amid the starlight, I began to dream:
I saw a straightway paved with sand and clay
Which stretched so quickly from turf's past tense day
To the here and now's learned academe.
This way then widened to each belfry's scheme
And rite's pyre.Walking on this passe` way
I saw ones blind with hair turned silver gray
And hands clasped in hands, walking in one theme!

I thought, "What's the blind's secret as they stayed
So neat and straight mid the way?"Then a great
Emblazoned armored car appeared arrayed!

Deep ruts it cut with its famed freighted weight
In haste!The blinded pilgrims unafraid
Walked zombie like in "graved ruts" ... deathly straight!

Hello, Brother John! You turned an intriguing dream into an intriguing poem ~ and I liked how you began with

"Amid the starlight, I began to dream:"

When I came to your closing lines, I found myself saying, "Right of way or rite of passage?" lol

Enjoy your retirement ~ I am sure you have earned it!

I look forward to you sharing more of your dreams with us!

Giving you a warm, welcoming hug,
Love & Light

BROTHER JOHN, I had wondered when you were going to grace us with a poem and grace us you did. Excellent work and the title is so intriguing.

Welcome!

Thank you thoughts to The Lady:

You were very generous with the word grace!
But it is a great word which includes all,  even those who try to pen a sonnet. Too, I thank this site for the joy of being able to share the beautiful thoughts of so many.  Thank you.

Dear Passing Shadows,

Thank you for your words of welcome. I read your works with interest.  Too, your pen name is a reminder: We are all passing shadows!  But then again, it could mean that all we pass are passing shadows.  Your pen name simply teases the mind to think.  Thank you.

Dear Eagle,

I see this dream saying in symbolic form the power of conformity.  The armored car symbolizes the powers that be which subject us to their graved ruts.  The blind ones are those who have to have ruts or they are lost.
When I had this dream many years ago, a bishop was driving the car. He symbolizes the leadership of all institutions which would bring us under their domination.  Those who really "see" do not need ruts or the armored car.  But sadly, most humans need deep rut, which as you know, are graves with no end.   I hope this helps.  Thanks for the read.
