The Quiet Stream

Deep never runs still;
the Ocean turns
eternal,
while the amaranthine depths
run silent,
though they are never still.
True stillness lies in shallows,
echoes itself out over loud rocks
in the shoals and falls,
in cloud mist unchanged by thunder
or the blasting wind.
Devoid of meaning,
they lose will and are gone.
Even the tense silence
of dew
rings loud by your measure,
and silent as wrong can be.
You are born of deepnesses;
in them you do remain
and to them someday
all returns.
The rushing stream merely
loses its way in you,
goes quiet,
wondering why the shouting
seemed so important,
and remembering at last
the beloved taste of salt.
Storms
that touch your surface
cannot change
your flow;
they wail the air
of their jealous rage
and pass away
unmarked,
though they burst the river.
Ocean heals all wounds
and through the vagaries of time
even the magma pool
somewhere down
beneath uneasy vents
may raise an island
but it cannot raze you.
Be well, Ocean,
live long, Deep.
You heal all, and in time
you too will heal.
You will not leave the world
nor the world leave you.
Always, the deep and quiet stream
of you shall be.

When Taylor called to share the news, he asked me to write a poem of healing for her. I've done as well as this poet can do, and I hope others will as well.

Thank you Ed.  I have just heard and I am devastated.  I will pray very, very hard for her complete and quick recovery.

You have read her poetry so deeply,
so sincerely, and have been touched,
by the deft and depth she preserves
in humankind, that I swear you have
grown in your writing over the years.

To Martie, To Taylor...

all that will be, will be found
in a quiet stream, of hope,
love, renewal, and genesis.

To Martie, To Taylor...

you will both be well.

A tribute worthy to comment on, although rather long in finding the trip to the end was well worth the journey

a poet who cares

As well as you can do is as well as can be done... This is tender magnificence... as beautiful as its inspiration and the heart that penned it. *S* I know that the writing wasn't easy... but it is exquisite. *S*

Ed, you were up for Taylor's request and you fulfilled it very well.

As difficult as it must have been to write, you did so with flying colours.

Love and healing hugs to Martie and her family,
Linda

We can only hope....and pray....and of course, continue in what makes us want to.

Ed, Taylor certainly knew the essence of your poetry when he asked you to write for Martie.  This is beyond any words I have to express my admiration for your insight and heart.  It is exquisite, as I am learning:  so is Martie's spirit.

Peace, be still (indeed!)

What better tribute to an outstanding poet than an outstanding poem which celebrates her her depth of perception and goodness of heart
Thank you

Ed...this poem touched me at a time when I really needed it, stealing a minute on my sons computer...and I couldn't see very well at all, but I read it any way...I read it with my heart.
