Never

He could never play that guitar,
that he loved so well.
But when his belly was full of whiskey,
he though he could give it hell,
and so did I.

His fingers were always busted,
his ego always bruised.
Some people were born to win,
and some were born to lose.

His knuckles were hard,
and so was his head.
He never had much use,
for what the good book said.
I guess I never blamed him,
cause neither did I.

His old hide was tougher than leather,
and he would bear up,
no matter what the weather.
I never though I would ever see him lose his cool.

But his sweetheart got sick one summer day,
and the angels came and took her away.
It was the only time,
I ever,
seen him cry.

Now he too is gone on to a better place,
if he didn't you can bet he's in the devil's face.
Cause he was a man that never...
learned to say never.

tough as leather and a heart of glass...

There is no armour stronger than love.

You insight is keen, and I can imagine this set to music, too.

I love these lines;

"His old hide was tougher than leather,
and he would bear up,
no matter what the weather.
I never though I would ever see him lose his cool."

This one is a keeper!!!!!!!!!

Oh yeah! You're singing to me now Steve... and singing beautifully too.
