It was just a slip and slide into other places
that set me to a-wondering whether past or present tense
but as no one’s here today to answer questions posed
I simply cried instead.

It was just a cry to settle the pain of loving you
behind the door of brain’s forgotten memory
but as love can never leave or ever cease to be
I simply sighed instead.

It was just a sigh inaudible to the air around my head
that sent me off a-gathering heart’s many broken shards
but as heart can never break the essence of its being
I simply smiled instead.

It was just an ordinary smile come and gone in a short while
that made me dream again but as dreams are never real
I simply breathed instead.

It was just an automatic breath like others gone before
that awoke the flames of passion from a forever sleep
but because they never lost their inherent will to live
I simply lied instead.

It was just an unspoken lie to everyone but me
that set me to a-pondering my score of karma points
but as karma’s not been proved this side of the moon
I simply loved again.

And it’s a beautiful love full of meaning for the free
that sends me off a-scuttling down to the depths of soul
but as soul is just a spirit wisp with no beginning or an end
I cry, sigh, smile, breathe, lie, and love,
instead of simply dying!

Oh my Helen...this is wonderful.
I love the way one stanza leads into the next.
Well done...very well done indeed.

Helen...I too enjoyed the form of this poem...ending with the cummulation of all that came before in: "I cry, sigh, smile, breathe, lie, and love,
instead of simply dying!"

I understand the meaning behind your words and I'm glad to see you came full circle to love again.  A good place to be for you, I think.

Thanks, Martie - yes, I do believe you are right but then again you are most times anyway.  Love will eventually be the final "thing" though I'm willing to admit that perhaps not in this lifetime.  Glad you enjoyed my ramble.
