who is Wynona Moon
and why has she written herself
into a poem?

she keeps telling me to think
and I will remember her
I have thought
but
nothing happens
except for that small glimmer in
the corner of the room
that remembers vaguely like a courtyard

red aramanth sleeps with thistles
and restless tumbleweed
an aroma of herbs plays at my understanding
brown lizard lies unafraid in the dust
lets the sun shuts his eyes

I see a loom
faint hand
casting a shuttle into the
warp of an old family pattern
that remembers me
wrapped in the night

I hear a soft voice
humming a song
that knits the stars
into a medallion for my
cradleboard

I don’t know how many
moons have faded away
suddenly
the sky darkens and the day leaves on a muddled wind
taking Wynona Moon with it

I must let her go
for another remembering

A grain of poetry suffices to season a century.

This is wonderful!

To step across the lines of lifetimes can open the eyes to endless possibilities.

Kate, I love this, LOVE this, LOVE THIS!  Unless I have misunderstood your poem, I know exactly what you mean.  I have sometimes had that experience either on waking or later, of trying to reach backwards, deep into a dream, to try to remember parts of it - a person, a place, a thing or a happening, that I know or know/about, but just can't quite remember - and it keeps jumping up at me, like a puppy who wants attention, yet I still can't remember . . .

I can see so very clearly the picture in your dream - and what a beautiful scene it is, no wonder it won't let you go - I can even tell you who Winona Moon is.  She is the person who Kate weaved into a poem with visuals, audio and effective cinematographical pauses - like the very best of French cinema - and that demands every atom of my attention (over and over and over) to every detail.

This is another masterpiece with Kate's signature to it.  Thank you for the absolute delight I had reading it (and reading it and reading it).

Yes Diana, you certainly do know who she is. She is so enticing but always just beyond my reach. I think she is a memory but I can't be sure. She comes just before sleep. I knew you would understand her.

Thank you for reading her and for your lovely reply.
