(Today is the memorial of the tragic Columbine shootings. Before I moved to Portland two years ago, I lived back in Colorado, and was only a few miles away from the high school when the heartache occurred, and several of my classmates had friends and family shot on that sad day (fortunately none died)

May our hearts continue to go out to the survivors and their families, and to all who have endured other heartaches of school violence! )

Columbine

Columbine,
lacen spurs strumming in the daylight,
pontificating the spirit,
of peace in the nighttime,
grace of love divine

Travesty,
patters pools of azure will,
lavender commingle of greed,
frosting upon innocent pastel sepals

Injustice,
bleeding into the calyx of unified love,
breaking soft hearts in self-affliction,
how despair can spread so rough

Sorrow,
ice on the shoulders of the winter,
wounded hearts slowly healing in many tomorrows,
leaves remaining of faint blister

Rise,
to the light of God,
for the spring has come again,
after the rain subsides,
let our blessings outnumber the splinters,
may wounds mend.

Love,
this breath of fresh air,
life’s immortal wimple,
to shine into your colorful heart,
budding only more courageous buds,
we the butterfly singing these psalms of faith, whispers of the faithful.

Columbine,
may my love help you grow on,
stretch your roots out now,
kiss the robin egg skies,
flowers may bleed,
but their love and hearts are never gone...

Oh, the travesty of it all. You vividly brought it all back to me. Fortunate be those who survived.

An impassioned and heartfelt write.

Lest we forget.

Love, Peace, & Harmony,
Linda
