The Way It Seems To Me

To some,
love is a prison,
to others,
an open door,
Some are bound to the earth,
while others soar.

To some,
love is a lost or stolen treasure,
of which alluring tales are told.
To others,
a bouquet of roses,
something to touch,
to have,
to hold.

Some try to change themselves,
or someone,
into what seems right.
Only to find themselves,
alone and cold in the night.

Others it seems,
have found that dream,
though I think that it is rare.
That once in a lifetime treasure,
of which all humanity,
longs to be an heir.

It seems that elusive dream,
that is so hard to attain.
Is lost in the giving,
of what should always remain.

To give someone all,...
your heart.
To give them all,...
your soul.
Leaves nothing of yourself,
to have or to hold.

To know who you are to love,
you must remain yourself.
At least that's the way it seems to me,...
the part of me that's left.

.

Wise words, Steven...and the poem very well done!!

I agree with all those before me on this.

And to some,
it would seem
that you always know
just what to say,
and when to say it.

Enjoyed this, Sir.

Thank you.

Wholeness makes it much easier to share with one's other half.

A thought poem, Steven. Very astute!  Very much like the saying, Love isn't love unless you give it away!

Much enjoyed.  It reminds me very much of a poem I wrote called Fairy Tale, and the strangest thing is that I was going to post it next anyway!  What a coincidence!

Like all the replys before me I must say for myself that you have said it all with this poem...
They say to truely love someone, You must first love yourself...
