It is simple
smiles on little mouths transform
into jaded laughter
the pig tails
bounced with joy
now fall plainly on her back
it was a miracle she survived this long

mistakes
ours
punish her
and the little girl
who played hop scotch
sits alone at the window
clinging to soft curtains
watching the wind

It is simple

You have this way, Dominique.

Reading this was like remembering

(not always a good thing, for me, but an event, nevertheless. )

You're good.
