Deep Sorrows

~ Linda L. Dowd ~

Sorrows buried beneath our skin,
Can surface when least expected.
They can spring upon us suddenly,
And all our world's affected.

A word, a glance, ~ a passerby,
Can trigger deep emotion.
And waves of pain roll over us,
As we’re pounded by an ocean.

A comment made in passing,
May bite like winter frost.
Reminding us of warmer times,
And all that we have lost.

Love is the unifying force
which integrates one's soul with another.
~ Linda L. Dowd

"Sorrows buried beneath our skin,

So very true, and I have experienced just that. When my grandfather died (about 3 years ago now) I didn't cry at all, I didn't allow myself to feel, I didn't want to be another burden on my family, so I just focused on supporting my relatives and my grandmother the best I could. And then, about a year later, I came to think of how we used to go hiking just me and him when I was younger, and like a fist to my stomach I had to deal with the mourning I had sidestepped a year earlier.
Anyway, thank you for the read, and for showing yet another side of your poetry

So very true, dear Earth Angel.  It is such a sad thing that this happens more often than not.  A little smile and a kind word ... the keys to a happy life, I think.  lovesyoulady.....lilyjo

Linda, you write this so simply for such starkly unsimple discomfort that seems to lurk, waiting for the cracks in our armor.  The rain falls, we cry, and seeds take root to grow blooms again, in cycles and seasons.  But through it all, love remains to heal and we grow, too.  I liked this, because you are very succinct in your message that thoughts affect our experience and actions touch others around us with profound effects.

Yes, these moments sure have a way of creeping up on us! ~ and at the most inoppotune times! i.e. When we're happy! I have experienced far them too many times ~ but not so much anymore. I have become a very positive and optimistic individual and I roll with the punches!

Sending you a warm hug and a smile,
Linda

Through my writing of this poem, I was hoping to convey my understanding and compassion of these kinds of feelings to those who are experiencing them now.

May joy be your constant companion!

Androgynous ~

Thank you for sharing your very touching,  personal story. I was deeply moved by it.

Like you, I used to keep a tight rein on my emotions and I bottled everything up inside. I always had to be the strongest, the most capable, the most responsible ~ and I never would show my vulnerable side. Fortunately, I learned that by being so "strong", I was becoming "weak". My health was being compromised.

Now I emote, emote, emote!  ~ and I have actually grown stronger!

Your Grandpa now truly knows how deeply you loved and appreciated him. He's smiling at you ~ as am I. God bless you both!

Love & Eternal Light,
Linda

Diana, you are a sweet, precious little bird. Although I may not be experiencing deep sorrows at the present time, they may raise their sad little heads in the future. That's a less than glorious aspect of living life! If you don't mind, I will most gladly accept your beautiful offerings to tuck away for those rainy days when the sun is hiding!

Hugs with love and gratitude,

(big angel hugs) Oh Linda, this is ever so true, as being a Water Sign especially you can imagine I feel things emotionally ever so often all across the spectrum, from laughter to tears, from self-confidence to self-depreciation! (hugs) I endured a lot of heartache when I was a child, much of which I've shared with you being misunderstood and beaten, and there will be scars that will forever be etched in my heart, but I find the best way to grow and mediate with the wounds is to look up to the sun and seek cheerfulness and meaning in times of adversity, for it's just that that has made me an optimist and one with a libido for life to this day, yay! (smiles) God Bless You, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Linda, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Like you, I have been mourning the loss of our cat Magic, however, we have two new ones "Emily" and "Felicity" and they are are beloved new members to our family.

Have you considered getting a new pet to love and to love you?

Thank you for your warm reply, my friend. I have been thinking of you!

Hugs with lots of love,

It is your optimism that will help you manifest more things to be optimistic about!

It's the gift that keeps on giving!

I lesser man would have been beaten down if they had walked a mile in your moccassins!

Stand tall and proud and continue to soak up sunny rays!
