they’re selling Christ’s coffin
at the bodega down the street
they do it every year

the coffin itself is kind of nice
made of myrtle
a wood which comes only
from Israel
or maybe Oregon
I don’t remember
pink and palest blue
modest yellow
Easter egg colors
subtly polished
silk lining
egg shell white

the lid lifts easily
planed
fitted
it is easy to get in
  and out
  the clerk says
smiling
burnishing the soft wood
with a careful hand
would madam like to try it?

  no
  deliver it to my door
  untested
  with a dozen Easter eggs
  and a lily

Grin

I liked the part about delivering it "untested"!
