I keep my burden close
So nothing spills out upon your shoes
This darkness I prefer
Has nothing to do with not wanting you

I carry a weight on my shoulders
Drags me down and I can’t pretend
This world will every be
what I want and I won’t let you waste yourself
Or feel sorry for me

It doesn’t mean I don’t love you
With every little tiny part of good I have
But this illness wears me out and in
No matter how much I want you
There is no place to begin

With me

I wish so much more for you
Then I am capable of giving
It kills me to have to pull away
Yet I know if you stay
This shroud of impossible and eternally doomed
Will engulf you too

I wouldn’t be able to handle
Seeing the light go from your eyes
I couldn’t bare the thought of your dreams dying
Because of the lack of mine

It doesn’t mean I don’t love you
With every little tiny part of good I have
But this illness wears me out and in
No matter how much I want you
There is no place to begin

With me

Susan

I understand this feeling from my own life.  You wrote it very well.

Susan, from the poems of yours that I have had the pleasure of reading, I gather that you have had a wide range of life experiences. It is from this well (and your compassionate heart) that you are able to draw your understanding of what others are going through in their own lives.

You have a caring ~ and poetic! ~ soul.

Hugs with love,
Linda

Thank you, Martie, Linda and Helen.

I couldn't get this out of my mind when a friend told me this is what they had done...

I kept wondering if they saw the irony of thinking they are lost, with no redeeming factors (or very little) and that they cared so deeply for someone else that they put that person before themselves....

Susan~

firstly

secondly

I could read you for hours on end....you have so much truth within you and it shows when you write....

And so it those we live with
and should know who elude us
But we can still love them
we can love completely
without complete understanding

Icy, I doubt that you are ever out of words..and I for one could listen to you forever.

Michele, not too much work, but rather an illness they have little control over and they don't want that burden on the other. It's the ultimate sacrifice.

Lauren, thank you,

I can say for sure that feeling can be overcome! You describe it hurtfully well Susan. Something that is hard for the person experincing that sort of pain to do. Your friend is in my prayers! :-)

Such an ache in your words Susan.
You have such a caring soul.

A most impressive write but so very, very, sad.  Life isn't just unfair - it's downright despicable at times.
