High on the hill,
where the cold wind blows
Papa still shines and Mama still sews
Patch on my elbows,
patch on my knees
a new ax handle from a hickory tree

My sister dont wear no feed sack
but yonder comes Papa,
with a chicken on his back
Gather on the porch,
gonna pick and sing
Brothers got a June Bug tied to a string

If you dont know what I'm braggin 'bout
Then I guess you never will
Grandpa turned the hound dogs out
and sent 'em down the hill
Hear em holler
A billion dollars
Couldnt buy my life

High on the hill,
where the cold wind blows
My uncle knows where the ginseng grows
Papas been trading,
and he aint no fool
He got two coon hounds and a one eyed mule

I'm walking round here,
proud and tall
I've got a new safety pin in my bib overalls
Mama made a good supper,
from an ol' polk weed
The good Lords givin us all we need

If you dont know what I'm braggin 'bout
Then I guess you never will
Grandpa turned the hound dogs out
and sent 'em down the hill
Hear em holler
A billion dollars
Couldnt buy my life

High on the hill,
where the cold wind blows
up in the morning, when the rooster crows
Papa got the corn in...
bring the wagon 'round
shuckin and a' shellin til the sun goes down

Hear the rain beating
on the old tin roof
Me and the family are living proof...
You dont need alot of money...
Dont need alot of things
Papa went to town and got a new set of strings

If you dont know what I'm braggin 'bout
Then I guess you never will
Grandpa turned the hound dogs out
and sent 'em down the hill
Hear em holler
A billion dollars
Couldnt buy my life

High on the hill, where the cold wind blows

This brough back a lot of memories. Those simple days are past here in my neck of the woods. But I remember one day when I was a kid (60's)the revenuers were blowing up so many whiskey stills it sounded like a war. Enjoyed Uriah!:-)
