By boot and by backpack we made our attack at a threatening bulldozer's gigantic big track that tried to bury our tiniest natives, the plants on the hillside that Mother Nature kindly gave us. We stood our ground, made that monster turn 'round in its tracks. I wonder if he saw what we saw when he decided to depart... the way his nasty teeth had chewed the earth apart. Yes, we were few and miniscule according to anyone's measure. But we still won that battle, hands and weapons down. By boot and backpack we made our attack. And won. |

 thank you, Maureen . It's from an event in my younger days in California. Challenging a bulldozer is a bit intimidating! But that was one time we won, thanks to the endangered species act and some luck on our timing. |

Thanks for your replies, Phil, Martie, Marge, Jo. For physical reasons, these days I am not as inclined to challenge bulldozers or hike the hillsides, but still write letters and voice my concerns. |

I have tried to save them also, Kacy These gifts, these treasures...moving ahead of the bulldozers...digging up rare ferns and dutchmens breeches in my native Bucks County... Though the place was ruined anyway, you succeded here, what a triumph!...bravo to you and this poem. I am saddened by the thoughts of those I could not save. ----------ice ><> |

Lady, Dixie, Martyjo, thank you. Ford, me too, for we lose more than we save daily. It is beyond sad. I no longer have faith that Gaia has the ability to recover from our stupidity. But thousands of years down the road, if this planet still exists, it surely will not have the same face it has today. And it will rotate on a different axis,perhaps, without any human faces. Sorry for the doom and gloom reply, folks. But it doesn't mean I shall give up while I am still breathing. |
