Farmhouse

If I had walked this path a hundred years ago,
On such a morning in the spring
I would have heard a robin on a little twig
Like all the morning robins sing

But oh, the farmhouse that I’m slowly walking past
Consumed by weeping creeping vine
A shutter hanging crooked by the entrance door
Unhinged by winds and empty time

Would be a sentinel to greet a passing soul
In vigil of an entrance door
To this abode all belly filled with noise and life
And bustling days of never more

A shutter can be torn by blizzard winds and hale
But why this tombstone leaning down
As though it begs a soft and well deserved repose
Outside the outer fringe of town

Somebody lived and died on this, a family lot
And nothing left to prove the worth
Of days gone by, except a robin on a twig
Who gaily sings of life and birth
And thawing of the winter snow
Just as the robins long ago

Ms Liz, those words were written by a true poet.

The following lines were especially poetic for me:

~ "A shutter hanging crooked by the entrance door
Unhinged by winds and empty time"

You have such seeing eyes, heart, and soul.

Have a happy spring day!

Your visions and words will keep it going for a long, long time Lizzie.  I remember that stone and wood farmhouse you showed me, and now once again, I am "home sick!"  Maybe this year Lizzie?

Liz...is this the place where you spent so many happy childhood days?  I sure hope it hasn't fallen into such disrepair!!  You wrote this feeling so well that it became a place in time!  I'm always amazed by you!
