   “They seemed very happy.”
            ~ the groom‘s father

oh please
we’re all happy on our wedding day
what’s not to be happy about
we look beautiful
the food is good
and we get fancy cake for dessert

it’s the marriage that
well...
let’s just say
the fancy cake is all gone

he will tell her he never really
enjoyed being cheek by jowl
with her weird mother and younger brother
and she will say while she loves sleeping with him
his arm around her all night feels...
well…
confining

he will notice the way
she tends to be just a little late
every time
how did he miss that before?
and she will observe that he is just a little
thicker around the middle than she thought

they will discover
the upside down
inside out of it all
habits and words
not expected
never before noticed
breathing that goes on and on
when silence is preferable
they will become
so very much
who they really are
and shock each other with the truth

then look at one another
with different eyes
in the dead of night
and wonder
what they have done
and how to undo it
without talking about it

but they seemed very happy
on their wedding day

Don't they all seem happy... Well maybe 4 times the charm.. lovely descriptions. I love how you took an event and brought it into poetry like this.

Well...look at it this way....We all found out Elvis REALLY IS DEAD when she married Michael Jackson..cuz I can assure you....Elvis would have made his presence known if he wasn't 6 feet under.....(but, I'll bet he did roll over a time or two in his grave).....very interesting write...

Kate, I think that you could convince me that polystyrene is alive and beautiful if you wanted to!

When I saw the title, I thought what a challenge!  How on earth is even Kate going to make that interesting, but you did it!  You always do.

There is such communication between your eyes and your words.  I love enjoying your observation and wisdom translated into art.

Thank you Page. I appreciate your reply.

Thank you Toerag. I think the real question is “Was Elvis ever really alive?”

Thank you LeeJ.  I would never say Elvis is not alive.

Diana, I think there’s a little glitch in my brain that makes me think a bit abnormally. All right… a lot abnormally. Thank you for your kind words.

Thank you WindWalker.

Thanks poeticrockstar!

Yes.  Let them eat cake!  You have a way of slicing it to the quick.   Maybe they need a few sprigs of Rosemary, too.  Rosed colored glasses on occasion, I've found to be an asset.

I enjoyed your insight, Lady.  There is nothing like the voice of experience, is there?

Hugs,
~ Karren
