A Little Light

If you're out and about today,
if you return before the night,
pick up a candle along the way,
I sure could use a little light.

The candle I have is burnt at both ends,
about half the size of my pinky finger,
I can see nothing by the light it lends,
I'm not one, in the dark, to linger.

The path ahead is gloomy and cold,
never easy travel, the unknown,
I should be prepared as things unfold,
much danger for those who walk alone.

If I should make it to where I should be
I'll light a candle just for reverie;

if I don't make it, if I don't find the key,
if I wander lost and never break free...

pick up a candle along the way,
light it and remember me.

wow... this is really a lovely piece of writing! And sort of odd that I picked it first to read as it almost sounds like you were watching my life for the last month. Terrific write, I love it!

You'll make it Dixie...the power of your words spring from a deeper faith.

You may be without him, passing shadows, but you are certainly not without us pipsters!  This is the place to be.  We all support you in your pain and loneliness.

Great write, Dixie!  Maybe candles are being lit without us even knowing it and that's why we're still here.

I knew you were back... and i am glad you are when this kind of poem comes from your pen. So honest, so fragile, but you are among friends now...thank you for this one...

Caroline, I thank you for such a wonderful comment. It's a good feeling to know other people can relate to what I write.

Sue, thanks...I know it's there somewhere! You are so encouraging!

Nancy, hugging you back

Eric, you know me too well. Thank you my friend.

Diana, thank you for the smile and give the little ones an extra treat for me okay?

Helen, your optimism is rubbing off on me! Keep it up! I need all the positive influence I can get. Thank you.

Steve, dang, I heard you the first time (and they say women are prone to repeating things over and over) LMAO It's always good to hear "Welcome back" "Nice to see you" though. Hope you've been doing well.

Phil, thank you my friend. I am comfortable here, yes. Glad to be home.

Kate, being quoted is the most wonderful comment a poet can get! Thank you. I'm glad you liked this.

Barry, you are truly wonderful!! (you had some left over from the last hurricane huh?)

Always remember, You Are Loved, by so many people. Just take the time to list them and then take the candle flame and burn the names into your memory. You Are Loved
