Silence and Deprivation

You stood among the trees in a forest
collecting what is only displayed in silence…
Your silence…

Where was that location?
Was it absolute for you?
Were you in correctness of age, and thought
and stature?
Did you observe with eyes, and ears?
Or was there absorption through your hair and
the pours of your skin?

Did you face North, South, East, or West?
Or somewhere in-between?
Is direction at all needed there?
Did you contemplate your breath, of what impact
it had as it mingled within the forests’ air?
Or the earth’s soil you may have displaced?
Or your own scent left behind?

Did you hear and smell the trees life, and the living among its bark and roots?
And did you listen; really listen to its friend, the wind?
Did you hear its accomplice?  The owl?
Or merely notice a shadowy glimpse?

And did you leave the way you entered?
Was it your concentration, or imagination,
which made important your elation?

And when you were gone…
Did you sense any deprivation?

~ Actually, the whole entire poem was quote-worthy!!!

Such layered meanings command the questions in this poem!  I will have to read it again, because it ripples outward like the rings caused by a stone thrown into a lake.  Quietly unsettling reverberations.

JL.......this sure made an impact on me, bringing back a moment in time when I found myself right there.  Moments like that stand still forever...and yet yours moves very well through the reader's eyes and feelings.   ....jo

How can one be deprived
in such silence
that only brings fulfillment?

Well done, JL.
