Night Crawler Shadows

The smell of spring drizzled new
A whisper past April eve
New soil uncovered itself
Where the spires of rake moved the day
Vibrations sent messenger to roots
Calling forth the multitudes of drillers
Their toils of the night shift, gave break
Quietly they made way to supper
Calling over their shoulders to the one behind
Garden grit hung segments in definition
And delight filled me, a new familiar
I had missed them, without provocation
Or distinction, yet without them, there is no spring
The sky struck a chord in thunder, lighting the way
Yet they…remained enchanted in the moonlight
And I…remained at ease as they did

Spring has sprung!
What a great write.
I can almost smell the mulch.
No, I can smell the mulch.
I don’t know how those worms can stand to live in that stuff.

Very different subject matter for you, T.D.
I LIKED!  Of course, I like all your poetry!
Yes, these little guys are so important, but rarely have I read about them in poetry.  Neat!

Whew! That's some line TD. Love your spring poem by way of night crawlers.
