Old Man Laughing

I saw an old man laughing once,
so I asked him why he did.
He said,"It's because I'm growing down!
I'm becoming a kid!"

I said,"Old man you've lost your mind,
how can this be so?
Young to Old is the only way that,
anyone can grow!"

He laughed the more at my reply,
he laughed so hard that I feared,
the old gent might die!

His chest heaved in and out,
between the He's and the Haw's.
But the knowing sparkle in his eye,
was enough to give me pause.

He said,"I know it hard for you to believe,
you ain't more'n fifty.
You ain't growed fully up yet!
Don't you find the though quite nifty?"

I said,"Sure old fellow,
and I'll bet my grand kids will too!
Has anyone ever told you,
your just a tad bit coo coo?

I wondered to myself if he could find,
his way back home.
So I asked if there was someone,
I could call for him on the phone.

I guess he could see my genuine concern,
his laughing slowed a mite.
So he said,"I understand what you must be thinking friend.
A kid in a tired old body must surely be a sight.

I know I'm a rarity,
maybe the only Old Kid you'll ever see.
But if you will just listen,
I'll tell how to grow down like me!

The first thing you should remember,
is your body is just a shell.
A temporary home for your eternal spirit,
your life force to dwell.

And as the years roll by,
as they surely must do,
don't neglect the spirit,
that grows inside of you.

Don't waste a minute hating,
set your sights on Heaven above!
Spend every minute you live,
learning how to love!

Then one day you can say,
I'm just a kid!
Then one day you can grow down,
just like I did!
:-)

Oh, Steven, I have to show this to some of my friends. They have been good-naturedly laughing at me for years because I've always said that I want to be a little girl when I grow up! Laughing Baby

Your words would be perfect lyrics for a song!

Big, warm hug,

A few years ago, my grandson asked me how old I was.  I told him I was much younger that he was.  He thought I'd lost my marbles.  "Gram, that's not possible," he said.   I couldn't help laughing at his incredulity.  "Well, I'm 52 years young," I told him, "and you are only 12 years young."  That makes me 40 years younger than you!  I guess he's forgotten that...he's the one who told me the other night that i was getting old.  hmmmmm!

Steven?

Another smile!

This reminds me of my wanting to fly up poem...

anything to whisk away the aches of growing old!

Enjoyed!

I love it Steven. I find my rate of growing down is speeding up. Thanks for the anthem.
