Starting a poem
wondering how Grandfather
began his farming
with just a pair of pliers.
Why must the image haunt me?

Perhaps for all he began with,
and you begin with a pencil,
you are haunted by the image of steel
to graphite.

In other words, I don't know, but continue,
and perhaps we shall both learn of the reason why.

Perhaps because you are awed and proud?  I always enjoy your thought paths.

It is that, very much so....

You're both right, and though the kind of work is very different, the principle is the same....I own these pliers, but I have to borrow all the language I use, in order to grow anything.

That, and this from Ben Franklin: "I am a farmer, so that my son may be a merchant, and his son, a poet."

In my case, it came true.

Ed...To each his tool!  I loved this, and your explanation.

Your tools are different... but the determination and commitment to make excellence from the most humble of building blocks is undiluted through the generations. *S* Your grandfather would be proud. *S*
And someday... your grandchildren will look at you and your pen with as much awe and admiration and "how'd he DO that?" and pride as you have in your ancestor. *S*
