"Tell me--lawd, does this make sense?"
Her fingers crawled upon my pulse.
"I understand the 'Allahs' and
the pleas that follow for our loss..."

I was dressed unto the nines
and on my way to better times
but something in her manner twined
as vines in clinging to my heart--
so I stopped and gave my thoughts
regarding script of Arabic--
remembering the aged green
of the cover that I gleened
so fervantly and how we screamed
my brother and myself agreed
upon the similarities
and how the middle east
met west
considering the virgin queen
and how we often did agree
more often then decreed
we'd not...

I sang to her there on the street
the blessings I was taught and we
held a bond complicity
and even birds were listening
to hear the prayers
of five a day
I pointed out the stars
the way
to mecca--
I was pulled away
by the boredom of my friends

who urged me on to jazz

as they

laughed

and asked me,

"YOU know God?"

I nodded saying,

"Bird  knew too..."

Then all that was, was not.

It would seem so when moderation is the common ground -- anyhow, that's what I think.

And then came....jazz.

K-Lady, I am caught up in this poem tonight.  And saving it, along with the others, of course.  But I'd like to talk to you about this one sometime. k?  luvsyamuchy.....jojo

just when we think we're at the top of the stairs, we slip and tumble, down, down, down, to a humbling awakening...although, this is not all that you've aspired here, this is what shot out to me, and slapped me like Cher in Moonstruck, screaming..."Wake UP"...sorry, of late I've been in one of those avoiding people tudes.     Serenity, your a princess of a poet.

Love ya

I often go to oz
to pray with my knees up
in case there is a crack in the sidewalk
under my elderly stroller
but my faith is strong
and left handed

I enjoy your sin, karen

What Bird knew was beyond words, only in music could an attempt be made to share the knowing.  This is poetry at the last outpost before entering that wordless territory.

Well done grasshopper!

Such truth here, Karen.  Thank you for the honor of reading you!

wow wow wow
sometimes your poems are so real, they feel undressed
you write of life, real life, stark naked ...and leave the understanding thereof to the reader...

Thank you all very kindly for reading my translation of the complexities of thought that are inspired by the immortal Charly "Bird" Parker.

And Jo Jo? grinnin'--if y'catch me drunk I WILL abuse yer ears with my version of "scat"--so next time, you'll exercize more caution, yes?

(See what a phone call and the proper alignment of planets will get ya folks? Of course, mercury has to be retrograde, and the moon must be on the wane and there certainly must be some Mist o'er Canada... )

Bird knew too.....such elegant simplicity should be the goal of poetry -- and of life.
