One day,
maybe soon,
this vagabond heart of mine
will look out upon a living moon
for the last time
with eyes that become more vacant every day.

I could be bitter
at the way I let you spin my life
too fast in circles for a little while,
until my grip on things once weighed with meaning
just couldn’t last,
and these eyes,
still fast back then,
could not help but see
the trappings of my life
quickly tearing out and falling free,
shed like feathers
having lost their usefulness
save for one more aimless trip,
scattered on a careless wind.

In private ways,
by which I’ve long known can be measured old,
I stand now nearly naked
mercifully ignored
within the shallow tides
of ever flowing and preoccupied younger souls
who rush headlong
driven by the hunger
for lives they seem never to understand.

I don’t criticize them out of hand
and in no way conjure malice,
it was after all
just a thoughtless cast of fate
that I started into ending
long before they could begin,
and even now in my time of knowing
I have no sense or feeling for this wind
that seems to reach at random
within the fading boundaries of my soul,
my quiet
waiting
none too patient
oh so tired
vagrant soul.

Icebox, I agree with sea, this is amazing. Another one for my library.

The soul would have no rainbows, had the eyes no tears.

*tiptoes back blushing furiously* Darn it, I forgot to tick the 'Add Threat to Library' box. Done now. *tiptoes away again*

The soul would have no rainbows, had the eyes no tears.

Mr. C., I think you are much too modest about the knowing part.  Thank you for this very special poem which I'll add to my treasure box.  Who knows when our last gaze at the moon will be and where it will be?.  My best to you, friend.   ...jo

I prolly never told you this, but I love all of your poetry. The longer ones, such as these, still break down into touching sensible heartache--if such a thing exists--here's what I mean--take the first line from every verse, and it's a poem all by itself:

"One day
I could be bitter
in private ways.

I don't critcize them out of hand--

(and yes, I would break here to add a summation--)

it was afterall
just a thoughtless cast of fate
that I started into ending.

and yeah, how dare me edit you...grin.

*laughing*

I got spunk.

Some people hate spunk.

I say it depends on what they've been eatin'.

Loved this.

Love you, Charly.

Mr. icebox - Okay - I give up!  I've tried three replies now and I just plain and simply get carried away.  Better by far to just commend your writing for its excellence (which I do now most heartedly) and leave opinions and theories for ... another life! But here's a hug meanwhile!

I cannot tell you in words what this heartfelt most profound write made me feel...I just wanted to cry and say I'm sorry to everyone and everything, that I've ever hurt, or althered their lives in any bad way...and without going any further, would also like to echo Karen and Henen's comment...adding, it is poets as yourself, that make me so warmly gifted to be a part of such a poetry site...thank you

Sad.....this makes me sad.  It's a good thing to be aware, but I think you might be too aware.
