Ah, we have a government
of the rich, for the rich;
a government bent on destruction
of the society that bore it.

This government considers the poor,
the homeless, the handicap, the jobless,
a drain on society –
because some of the immoral profits
it reaps by taxes and endless “fees”
must be shared with the poor.

Well, no more says The Premier:
If they have no bread, let them eat cake!
Cut off welfare, pensions, social programs!
The Money of the land
rightfully belongs to the rich;
let the poor feed their own poor!
And you? Pay your taxes, keep quiet
or we’ll think of something worse
to saddle you with!

And as I read of these things
– not from Charles Dickens –
– not some stories
from some despotic tyranny –
but from “my” government,
I hear a voice in my mind saying:
what is their next step?
Jobs for the jobless and vagrants
building gas chambers
for those who “drain” society
                     ?
– Sieg Heil! –

This is a brave piece of work. Although i've never penned political issues myself I beleive that our times call for assertive voices , such as your poem, that can denounce without losing artistry in the process.

Well done!, congrats.

Now, even if I don't agree with you, the intelligence in this was wonderful and I really did like it.
Have you ever read Ayn Rand?

A rough topic, to be sure, but you spoke your mind, and held your ground. That is the essence of freedom,...something that is worth fighting for when it is truly endangered.

Poignantly written.  Humanity.  That's what it's all about.  Everyone (no matter what economic status) needs to feel worthwhile and productive in some manner.  To maintain a quality country, people must experience pride in doing their best and should be valued.

(big angel hugs) This poem reminded me of what Norman Vincent Peale used to say: "Empty pockets never held anyone back.  Only empty heads and empty hearts can do that."  (sad sigh) Though I don't agree with the historical comparisons implied here, I do agree that our government has taken for granted the basic and universal qualities of life guaranteed to all Americans and have sacrificed things from food stamps to education to pay for interventionist foreign policies and tax breaks for the rich! (sad sigh) I believe this poem rings with a pure breath of social consciousness in that ALL governments who strip the citizens of their basic qualities are weakening their countries, their peoples, and are ultimately hurting democracy and society in the process! God Bless You, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet friend, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton
