I've often said
I live alone

I lied

Love waited
Inside my door
On little paws
In deep green eyes

Love soothed my sleep
With gentle vibrations
Cloaked in soft fur

Love followed me
From room to room
With unconditional
Acceptance

I mattered

Now love is gone
Familiar walls
Give no welcome
They only echo

empty

empty

EMPTY

And I now know
alone

I fell in love with Mama Kitty over 18 years ago... For the last 17 years, it has been my honor to be her companion.

I don't know how old she was... but given what I know, 20 is a conservative estimate. She died yesterday morning and now rests next to her daughter at the farm... while I rattle around a place that's merely residence, no longer home.

Suthern,  they do become a part of us, don't
they?  And they do give unconditionally.
I hope you can again find that love and
acceptance.

Ahhh suthern... it's such a lost and lonely feeling when our little ones leave us. They are not only part of our lives but of our hearts. I am so sorry Mama Kitty had to leave you.

Your poem so expertly expresses the sadness of losing a pet and the unconditional love offered.  It's something I've been thinking about now that my dog is getting on in years but hopefully she'll be with me still for many years.  My most sincere condolences!

Ah Laura, we've known for a long time, haven't we? And when the moment comes, there's still nothing that is right to say, nothing to fill the echoing void.

You know my thoughts, I'll let them be the answer to this beautiful poem....and yes, I did notice that you wrote short-line this time. Branching out to find a way to say, that is perfect for the moment and the message.

suthern,
I remember reading a poem about the death of your cat some time ago.  Have you thought about getting a new one?  Animals do make a world of difference.  When Sam died about a year and a half ago, I thought there would never be another dog for us. Well, since then, Buck and Doodle have come to reside with us.  I can't say that either of them have taken Sam's place, but they do give our family joy (as well as a few challenges! "GET DOWN Doodle!")

   Wishing you the best.

cathy

Renewed sobs for you, suthern.  I read your email before I came on to Pip.  Three (I think it is three) of my questions in the email are answered.

This is so beautiful and a wonderful tribute to Mama Kitty.  At least Tigger and Daisy (Daisy woke up in time for the explanation) know why Mommy is racked with sobs.

As I said in my email, don't worry about Mama Kitty in Heaven because Flicka, my horse, will find her and look after her and find Cosette and all Mama Kitty's other kittens and unite them.  They will all be sending you their love (Flicka too, even though he didn't meet you - he just loves everyone) from Heaven and supporting you in your grief.

I have some understanding of how you are feeling. Some of the "Magic" went out of my life as well on December 12 ~ just before Christmas. Our cat was a part of our lives for almost 17 years and we are all missing her terribly. At least we have each other for company and to ease the pain.

Your loss is amplified by living on your own and having had your beloved kitty pass just after your father did. I deeply feel your sorrow and loneliness. This poem is one of the most sad and lonely poems that I have ever read. Remember, Ruth, and this too shall pass. Pain does dim with the passing of time. ~ I just wish at times that it would pass more quickly, but then, that would be wishing my life away.

Thinking of you and sending you my love,
Linda
P.S. ~ and remember you are not truly alone (altho' it may feel that way!) ~ You have so many people who love you! ~ and I'm one of them!

Goldenrose: Thank you for those kind words... She was so tiny to leave so much empty. *S*

Magnus: Thank you, my friend. *S* I know another cat will eventually come into my life... but no one can ever replace her. *S*

Enchantress: Indeed, they are! *S* And since Daddy's death... she was even more precious to me. *S* Thank you!

Uriah: I can't speak for her. *S* But I know she blessed my life... and I'm grateful for every day. *S* Thank you so much!

Martie: Between human family and beloved cats, I've gone through 7 deaths in 11 months... and can't bend any farther. *S* Thank you!!

Seymour: I count on that, my friend... always. *S* Thank you so much!!

The Lady: That's it, exactly. *S* Thank you so much for your sympathy and understanding. *S*

Honeybunch: I hope so much your dog is with you for many more healthy years! *S* Thank you!!

serenity blaze: You're in the same boat I'm in... less than one more loss from losing it *S*... and there's not a paddle anywhere. *S* Hugs to you, lady... I'm sorry for your loss, too.

Skyfire: Thank you! *S*

Ratleader: Bless you, my friend... I thought I was prepared... but you just can't ready yourself for the missing... no matter how great the advanced notice. *S* And losing Mama Kitty proved to me I'd been coasting on numb... every scab's now ripped open. *S* Thank you... for everything. *S*

Sunshine... Oh yes... mightily. *S*

nakdthoughts: You dear... I know it still aches... thank you!!!

luminosity: I thank you for crying with me, my friend... I miss her so for herself... miss being first in a heart... miss the way she herded me into doing what she wanted me to do. *S*

cody: I am... thank you. *S* And give your dog even more than half the bed if she wants... *S* They give so much!!!

miscellanea: Mama Kitty's daughter, Cosette, died 2 and a half years ago... My sweetheart at the farm, Boy, died a year ago. All during this last hard year, Mama Kitty's been waiting for me each time I entered the door... Saturday "home" became a place of echoing walls. *S* I know I'll stumble upon another cat intent on adopting me and when that happens, I'll fall in love all over again. *S* But meanwhile, I can't even eat dinner without missing her interest in what I was eating. *S* Thank you!

iliana: Hugs are much needed and appreciated. *S* Thank you! *S*

Owl: Thank you so much, my friend... Your support has helped tremendously this last week... and I hope our friends do find each other... I'd like that very much. *S*

Marge: Thank you, sweet lady. *S*

Interloper: Thank you, my friend... I appreciate that! *S*

Lee J: I'd intended to name her better. *S* But by the time she was mine and I asked her what she thought of the name Sabrina, she informed me through selective ignoring that she was and would forever be... Mama Kitty. *S* Thank you!!

Mysteria: Thank you, dear lady... I hope so, too... She's not replaceable any more than Daddy was... but... somewhere there's another friend waiting to help me through the lonely. *S*

EA: You are so understanding... if ever there's an angel on earth, it's you. *S* And you're right... It was just her and me... and I've "leaned" on those fragile little shoulders hard since losing Daddy... don't have a crutch to get through this loss. Thank you, dear friend... I wish I could hug you for your lovely words... they do help. *S*

Beloved one, finally I've got the chance to come in and add my little mew, as always beloved one your words are so filled with depth and truth. I can hear the ache of sorrow, almost taste your tears.

I know I'm after the fair but this beauty could do with being hoisted once again.

Love you always
