(We are on the eve of the third anniversary of the Iraq invasion, and reflecting back on the whole war, I feel in my heart we are no more safer now than we were three years ago. In fact, I feel we are less safe, with Iraq itself on the precipice of civil war, tens of thousands lost in battle with still no exit strategy in sight.

As I've mentioned before on previous anniversaries, I believe war only brings out the worst in us all and the world, generates more chaos and conflict and, ultimately, makes even more enemies. I believe Iraq is becoming just the latest example of that in an already incredibly lengthy strand of examples.

I am absolutely proud and happy to be an American, regardless of how much I disagree with the interventionist foreign policies our government too often embraces and our growing war economy. I also absolutely denounce terrorism and the heinous acts terrorists commit. I simply just believe war itself is terror; the lives of the innocent are always at risk, while money is taken away from our children's health, schools, even feeding, leaving our own domestic population's quality of life decaying.

I also just want to say that to those of you out there who initially supported the war in Iraq, I absolutely forgive you, as though I'm opposed to all war, thus was opposed to this one from the beginning, every American would truly like to put all our trust into the president and be assured and re-assured that there is nothing but the best intentions in protecting this country, and OF COURSE you went and supported the president. OF COURSE you trusted that he was doing nothing but getting to the source of those who caused the chaos of 9/11.

Let this anniversary be a golden opportunity to reflect on this conflict, and ask ourselves, "What do we really wish for our children and for the world?" and let your heart speak your greatest wishes with conviction. God Bless You All, and "si pacem, para pacem. )

Windpipe Splitting Art

Can you remember the last time,
you didn’t use the morning paper,
as a handkerchief…
…and somehow you feel,
it’s the impeccable crying of the young,
that causes the continental shift…
…Lord knows sacrifice is what helps us mature,
sacrificing what we are
for what we want to become…
…I don’t believe God
meant the sacrifice of mankind,
it’s a rule of thumb conundrum…

As far from where we’ve been,
all wars are civil,
cause in heart we’re all siblings,
when did the pun
become mightier than the sword,
all this armchair president quibbling,
all this quality of life dribbling.

Hospitals,
become graveyard exhibits,
you don’t need no statistics,
TO SEE IT’S A WINDPIPE SPLITTING ART.
Violating the law of nature,
so fathers bury their sons,
another impoverished victim,
OF A WINDPIPE SPLITTING ART.

Assembly line freedom is just a lame excuse,
to postpone our greatest visions,
and a poor baby’s blanket and apple juice,
their families feel their child’s hearts beating,
in coffins draped in red, white and blue,
while the secretary of defense,
stands in press conferences with his hair all moussed,
don’t you dream of the day we’ll teach our children history,
not by ruins but by monuments,
and blueprints of cynics,
dreaming up wars for our children to fight in,
will all soon go out of print…

As far from where we’ve been,
in the true sense of the word,
winning the war,
is just as disastrous as losing one,
I’m not meaning to disturb the peace,
I’m only disturbing the war,
if war creates peace,
then does hate create love.

Hospitals,
become graveyard exhibits,
you don’t need no statistics,
TO SEE IT’S A WINDPIPE SPLITTING ART.
Violating the law of nature,
so fathers bury their sons,
another impoverished victim,
OF A WINDPIPE SPLITTING ART.

If the dead could return,
would we take heart to listen,
to all they have to say,
would you reflect on all this differently,
IF THE DEAD COULD RETURN,
imagine what we could learn,
Would we stop using man’s best,
to commit man’s worst routinely…

As far from where we’ve been,
in the true sense of the word,
winning the war,
is just as disastrous as losing one,
I’m not meaning to disturb the peace,
I’m only disturbing the war,
if war creates peace,
then does hate create love.

Hospitals,
become graveyard exhibits,
you don’t need no statistics,
TO SEE IT’S A WINDPIPE SPLITTING ART.
Violating the law of nature,
so fathers bury their sons,
another impoverished victim,
OF A WINDPIPE SPLITTING ART.
DON’T GO TELLING ME,
ABOUT ATROCITIES,
WAR ITSELF IS ATROCITY,
IT’S A WINDPIPE SPLITTING ART,
BEYOND OUR CONTROL,
JUST TRY REFINING IT,
JUST TRY DEFINING IT,
ITS STILL A WINDPIPE SPLITTING ART…
