In moments passed
people used it.
Now it is
a decaying echo
of the past.
Memories cling to
it, ghosts echo
within it's walls.
Scenes are played
out again, like
a projector left
on repeat, beaming
its history onto
flaking, pealing, walls.
Soon it will
be cleared away,
with it, the
dying whispers of
long ago memories.

Desire for nothing except desirelessness, hope for nothing except to rise above all hopes, want nothing and you will have everything.avatar Meher Baba.

wow, Phil
whether or not you meant a word play
'pealing' vs 'peeling'???
either word works for me, each offering intense but very different imagery that I could FEEL
of course, with that title, and your propensity for precise language, methinks it's an intentional  fantastic word tease

This poem perfectly brought to mind my feelings regarding the demolition of an old local theatre.

A fine piece of writing!

Excellent write Phil.
It is sad how they demolish beautiful old buildings
to make a parking lot.

Kacy thank you for noticing, you do see the hook dont you? The words are there for a purpose so they have to be precise.
I am fascinated by old ruined buildings, that tell a story.Thank you for the comment, your words are always welcome.

Linda...Thank you for your kind words..glad i could shine a light into your closet of nostalgia.....GR...

Nancy...Yes it is so sad, should they be allowed to demolish buildings if we are emotionally attached to them? But then i could not admire the abandoned beauty of the decaying building, once a hub of life, now laid open to the inexorable movement of time? So it is sad/happy/sad..LOL..perhaps they should be left for photographers and people who like their beauty in decay..like a museum of decay?..Thank you for your reply...GR.....

Oh the stories old homes could tell of those who went before and left echos of themselves behind the walls. I really liked the images this piece conjured up for me

I loved the photo of the swan under Kingston bridge. Phil, thanks for the cool enjoyable link!
Wish they could just leave parts of that pool area as they were in those photos.

kacy i am pleased that you got to see the photographs...perhaps we could start a picture gallery with links to see the old buildings as they are now?..Left derelict?
Each bulding has a story..each house has memories echoing within their walls..of good times and bad...it also left me with an idea for prose...let you see it later..thanks for coming back..
