The beginning lines of both stanzas were borrowed from Emily Dickinson...

***

He ate and drank the precious words,
And watched his heart take flight;
What power has been given to
A word of love or hate!

He danced along the dingy days,
His life forever changed
Merely by a single word
Her pen had chanced to say.

Honestly... I don't agree with the
"borrowing" of Dickinson's lines. You seem to have potential; you don't need to use other poet's works.

Edward, thanks for the input. This is the one and only time I "borrowed" words from a poet. It was done specifically as part of a challenge (/pip/Forum7/HTML/000676.html). The idea was not to steal ideas or words, which I never meant to do, but to take the words of a famous poet and give new meaning to them.
Please let me know if you still consider this offensive after considering why I did so. If you do, I will not do it again.

Blessings,

Ben

I didn't find it offensive. Plus, I didn't know about the challenge. Is the egg on my face showing? I do apologize. You do have a very nice gift. Cheers   - Ed

Well done Ben! Emily is a hard act to work with but you are certainly equal to the task!

Edward,

Please don't feel bad. It was my fault that I forgot to post a link to the challenge. Plus, I always try to be sensitive to the bounderies of where poetry should not be allowed to go, so I was honestly interested in your opinion. Thank you for sharing it so freely.
