I was sleeping like a rock,
when somedody knocked;
and the girl of my dreams...turned to wood.
I was whittling away,
when someone yelled, "Hey!"
and finally, my brain understood.
Well, Oh mercy me!
Who could this be?
Getting to my house can be hard.
Most folks change their mind,
with No Trespassing signs
and two pit bulls running loose in the yard.
My mind was still hazy,
when it said, "Upsy Daisy!"
and I stumbled my way toward the door.
My heart started grieving
when I saw the car leaving
and I hollered, "What did you wake me for?"
Who would face such danger?
The car...was a stranger.
My dogs never barked, for Pete's sake!
Then, there in my screen...
I saw a magazine...
The name of it said... "AWAKE"
Well, He stood his ground...
With danger all around.
He let his faith show...like daffodils in the snow.
He might not have been too bright...
But, he believed he was right;
And he ignored the cost,
trying to get his point across.

I thought about going back to bed,
but stayed up instead,
and pondered...On getting new dogs.
Part of me was leaning
toward the girl I'd been dreaming,
but I'd left her...sleeping like a log.
So, I turned on the T.V.
There was Montel and telepathy.
On Springer...They were having a fight.
Some Skin-head got attacked,
by a whole bunch of blacks,
for proclaiming that...Only white is right.
He expressed his views
on blacks, Asians and Jews
and made the Southern school system look bad.
He spoke of hatred and killing
and made the crowd willing
to knock out what little brains he had.
But, he stood his ground...
With danger all around.
His intelligence shows...like the Emperor's new clothes.
He might not have been too bright...
but he believed he was right;
And he ignored the cost,
trying to get his point across.

I think back through the years
All the good times and tears.
All the times when I thought I was right.
Precious things that I've lost
by ignoring the cost
and letting my pride pick a fight.
But I'd stand my ground...
With danger all around.
I would give quite a show...With a clown named Ego.
I might not have been too bright...
But I thought I was right.
I'd ignore the cost,
trying to get my point across.

What seemed important back then,
has gone with the wind.
So much has changed...in my heart and my head.
If it were not for...He
who has risen in me,
by now...I would surely be dead.
I'll let Him lead the way
for the rest of my days.
I can't control what goes on in my sleep.
But, as long as I'm awake,
my life's His to take
and when I'm dead...My soul's His to keep.
Because He stood His ground...
On that Calvary mound.
He let His love show...with each drop that flowed.
His guiding light...
Forever shines bright.
It points to the cross...
Where He paid the cost.

He got His point across.
