Her silhouette stands proudly upon the craggy cliffs, backdropped against small sage covered islands, overflown effortlessly by pelicans and guiltless gulls flying overhead while watching insignificant sailboats rock and roll precariously over white capped foam, tossed about in the rise and fall of crested peaks as they taunt and tease with nature’s ease at the floundering humans below frantically casting glances of fear and doubt, as if the gods should be bothered listening to their soulful cries after yearly hearing a myriad of lies about how humans would be more careful in the future to take better care of the waters of the Earth, the basic necessity for the survival of all life forces. And the gulls screech with raucous laughter as the pelicans swoop in wide mouthed, scooping a bounty of fish from the seas, while the hungry storm tossed pitiful humans fall to their knees, begging forgiveness. On the beaches lowly crabs crawl slowly away clapping with glee at the prospect of the end of man... so full of himself in his carelessness, slovenly behavior, and incessant inhumanity. And the albatross smiles as she presents God with her nestling that shall soon inherit the skies and seas. * |

*****breaking news from http://www.howlingthemoon.org/ BREAKING: Largest Oil Spill Ever on Alaska’s North Slope After days of lowball estimates (ten times lower!), BP and cleanup officials finally announced today that 201,000 to 267,000 gallons of crude oil were likely spilled this week in Prudhoe Bay, an area just west of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The spill -- the largest in the history of Alaska’s North Slope -- underscores the fact that oil drilling is a dirty business and has no business in a world-class wildlife refuge. Such a large spill should make it even harder for the drilling lobby to sell their unwanted plan to drill the Arctic Refuge. AP story: BP’s press release: Abuse of Power: Senate Rules Twisted to Push Arctic Refuge Drilling… Again The full Senate will vote next week on whether or not to pass a budget resolution whose only instructions would be to the Energy Committee to authorize drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Because they cannot pass their shortsighted drilling plan by any other means, pro-drilling GOP leaders are manipulating the federal budget for the sole purpose of forcing Arctic Refuge drilling through the Senate by a bare majority. Although they tried the same scheme last year, Senator Stevens and his allies are not even pretending that this year’s budget instructions have anything to do with balancing the budget anymore. **** here is some news to chew on while most of the media frenzy is in the middle of Dubya's Dubai Debacle.... |

I remember reading about the Exxon Valdez and thought that was awful. This fuel thing is an ugly business in every way, except it moves our transportation and heats our homes. We've got to utilize other forms of energy for sure! |

Thanks each for taking a moment to read. I still haven't seen a single news blurb on mainstream internet pages regarding this spill and its impacts. Perhaps next week? |

perchance we are the albatross? I really got into the imagery in this one. I love watching sailboats and windsurfers. Often I catch myself holding my breath watching them disappear in the ocean swells. We are not good caretakers of the earth, especially when it comes to spills. There is still a derelict ship that will long be in the waters off the coast where I live, which was deliberately blown apart and the oil spilled. Sad and ghostly effects, as if the ship were alive and grieving. The earth certainly does. ~ Karen |
