I sat silently,
watching a colony
of ants, laboring
to build their mound.
They were perfect
in their being.
For they were being....Ants.
For a brief moment,
my mind pictured
Hebrew slaves;
Stone cutters
and carriers;
Using up their lives,
constructing pyramids.
For a brief moment
I imagined them as
vain and confused
seekers, struggling
to erect Babel's tower,
in hopes of reaching
Heaven.
If this were so...
They would do better
to be as the acorn
that lay beside their mound;
which, with no thought;
no plan in mind;
Just by being still,
will reach far greater heights.
But, it is not so.
The ants are just being...Ants.
The acorn is just being...Acorn.
And in...Being
They are perfect.

Hmm. I think I need to learn a lesson or two from you Larry. To just be... I'll try! lol

The soul would have no rainbows, had the eyes no tears.

I read this last night, and I must say, the style of it reminded me very much of another here at Pip whom I consider a masterpoet. His style is also conversational at times, and I really like that aspect of this piece.

(The poet I mentioned would be "wranx".)

This here:

"I sat silently,
watching a colony
of ants, laboring
to build their mound.
They were perfect
in their being.
For they were being....Ants."

smile.

I have often said to my friend wranx that the internet, and online communities sometimes reminded me of antfarms.

Fascinating in the box--but lawsy, hard to keep 'em contained at times.

So far, I think this is my favorite of yours.

Enjoyed.
