Moved from a shack to a barn

0 posted 2006-03-10 11:34 PM

If Von Leibniz was right about the nature of space

If this vastness containing all we know
And all that we don’t
Doesn’t exist unless populated

If it, like an alphabet missing its letters
Has no reason to be

I wonder if the plug were pulled
And space emptied of the universe

Of its myriad galaxies with their uncountable stars
And the attendant constellations

Virgo, Orion, and The Seven Sisters, gone
Along with our Sun and the shadows it casts

Its companions, the old gods
Mars, red with purpose, cold dark Pluto
And pale beautiful Venus

This Earth and everything on it
Mountains, oceans, hills and creeks

All creatures, great and small
Gone too, the sounds they make

Birdsong and growl, Da Vinci’s last breath
With the very atmosphere that carries them

Palace and hovel alike, this shack
And their occupants, drained away

If all the works of man, this page, these words
And their attendant letters, were gone as well

What then, of thought?

Thought would go on....and eventually, when the non-existant time was right, thought would start it all again.

In the beginning was the Word.

Wranx,
Indeed, " What then of thought ". You postulate a scenario wherein every known equation is absent. My gut tells me there is still something left. Why do we cling to life?

"What then, of thought?"
That's a  thought
provoking question and an
excellent poem... the sort
you read over and over.

What, a wranx poem a mile down the list, with but three replies? Fie upon it -- this shall not be allowed!

I am glad RL brought this back up.  I haven't been here near as much as I would like to Ed, I am glad that I didn't miss this.  I love when poetry makes me think as this did.  Very well done Ed.

With the big thinking that you do, Ed....I think it would linger within an empty room, certainly will in my mind.

Always the thought-filled write, Ed. It would be a hard concept to believe in, let alone experience. But as always, you've penned [even if short-lived] a

hmmm, methinks I'll be thinking a myriad of powerful thoughts tonight as I ponder this poetic philosophical presentation.
Twisted thought...I'd sure hate to see van Gogh.
You've been thinking overtime.
I'm thinking the Von Leibniz theory shall die a wrongful thought death, fall into a black hole full of missthoughts.

"What then, of thought?"

Remembering that in the phrase "human life" the word "human" is a modifier, an adjective, then life demands existence and will cause its creation if need be.  Thought in essential form is useful simply to organize awareness so that life may evolve through the presentation and reaction to choices.  Karen is correct: ...then it begins again.

I think the real question would be, did we learn how to do it better?

assuming, it begins again, of course.

thought provoking Ed.
