With an ear pressed to the cold ground,
listening to Mother’s heartbeat,
a surrealistic sound did surround;
I heard a deep sigh, followed by a mournful cry.

Though muffled, ‘twas unmistakably
the sound of pain and frustration.

I backed away, startled,
yet Her voice was crystal clear.
The gravity of the moment grounded me,
and the air was charged with intense fear.

"You must give me back my forests"
she cried, "and my pristine waters, too.
For that’s the only way you’ll survive.
It’s the God’s truth, from me to you."

So I gathered up what courage I had,
and climbed a nearby mountain top,
then shouted above the trees and clouds,
"This destruction has to stop!"

When the echo came back from the canyon wall
my heart sank, and on my knees I did fall.

For no one was listening, save those stone walls.

I'm listening Kacy, and I join you in your plea... I wonder what it will take to make the rest of the world listen. The answer scares me....

The soul would have no rainbows, had the eyes no tears.

I hear ya Kacy...
I think we need to yell louder
so the ones at the top can hear.

I still have yet to see a redwood tree.

I sure hope they are still around, hell, I hope I am still around to get that opportunity.

And? If I have to make a wish list, I'd include some wetlands. (You'd think that one would be easy considering all the pissing contests that go on in politics. )

love ya Kace

It's like a warm hug, to hear that others ARE listening, and more than likely taking some kind of action at their local level. Thanks friends, for hearing the scream.

We're out here Kacy, listening and longing to be heard.

I know you are, Lady. We might have to start screaming louder though, to be heard over all the political brouhaha.
Meanwhile, even whale migration is taking a major change, due to Arctic warming trends.
But it's just whales, right? The entire planet continues to reap what we humans sow.

A short response to this, dear poet.

It is not fear you show but respect
Our mother is stronger than the will
Of a millon, million crude men, with crude ideals.

In my opinion, these are the strongest lines in the poem...

"You must give me back my forests"
she cried, "and my pristine waters, too.
For that’s the only way you’ll survive."

This seems so obvious, common knowledge, and I don't know why it is not heeded..

All I can say is Amen, to those words and to the rest of your heartfelt poem..

The last line made me shiver, I know that feeling...

Peace to you, gentle poet.

Dear Kacy....

what ice said.

what serenity wants.

we will decease.

the earth shall live, renew, regenerate.

written in undertone, in respect.

i only wish it would be

in our time.

thank you, once again!
