In this world of transience,
of evanescence and mortality,
of shifting morals
and ever changing boundaries...

We look for permanence,
something strong,
something solid,
something to hold on to,
something that will always be there:
Unchanging.
Unflinching.

So we stand on concrete paths,
drive cars on tar covered roads.
Walk in the shade of buildings
that reach high into the sky...

We furnish homes
and pour money into phsyical things,
knowing most of them will remain
long after we have left this world.

Yet...

I never feel more sure of myself
than when I feel the earth
disppear from under my feet,
pulled out to sea by transient waves
as I stand on the shore
of an ever changing ocean.

The soul would have no rainbows, had the eyes no tears.

All of the solid things in life can be moved by nature, yet the heart knows and stays true. Questions are there to be asked but our inner being knows the real answers to all things, love, life and what we really want, but how many listen to their inner being?

A fine poem of inner searching..enjoyed reading immensely..thank you..

Oh, I do like this one dear poet.
Even when it tugs too hard, the tug of the sea is spiritually far more solid than concrete.
Good to read your thoughts today!

Yes... we do... and yet, so few find it... even fewer know how blessed they are when they do. *S*

This is wonderful. *S* Your last verse takes me to the ocean's side... to listen to the secrets of the tide. *S* Excellent!!

G'day Rainbowdust.  I had a friend who lived in the concrete jungle and paid for everything she had to do and one day visited us and was lying back on the beach in her deck chair, running the sand through her toes and enjoying the cool sea breeze and watching the joy on other folks faces when she commented to me.

"This cost you nothing you know."

Enjoyed your sentiments.

Wisdom is shy, and takes refuge in ageless heart.  Loved this.

I don't suppose I could interest you in some insurance then?

Enjoyed this much, and agree with you, totally.
