American Dream
By Paul Wilson

Gray cold monuments of society
testament to the American dream
Looking down from the heavens upon us
heartless predators planning their next scheme

The less fortunate… pawns in their game of
life waiting…for the day of sacrifice
Power brokers they are called by many
in their towers with hearts as cold as ice

The masses should revolt and destroy those
ivory towers built from our blood and sweat
Forget the little guy he’s another
puppet on a string we haven’t cut yet

Taste of bitterness from all the lies told
leave us asking the age old question Why?
Survival of those that exploit the rest
of us…and line their pockets as we die

Get rich quick schemes sold each day on T.V.
like cola’s and other snake oil remedies
Just call one eight hundred get rich quick he
says…beat the rush get the inside track please

Pinch your pennies and save the down payment
on a new life of luxury today
Payment is due on their ivory tower
send it priority do not delay

You’ve taken everything except my life
to you I’m just a puppet on a string
Set me free from this American dream
the price to high I can’t buy anything

~~To share my poems with you is to share my heart with you~~

who would want such a dream? , i understand and identify myself with your writing,  myself being an unfortunate one.. Yet my humble opinion is that change is within, little as we may be we construct the power that others hold. so we can take it back. we really can.

Yes, there is just cause in this jaded view ~which you happened to express very well!

~ but then there is also the other side where American dreams truly do come true.

Paul, you vented very poetically!

Sending you a big, warm hug,
Linda
