Our Brook Stone Cottage
9 August 2001

I hear you sing our dreams
and painted moments in the sun
and moonlight flights across the sky.

I answer calling, calling, calling,
pausing, listening
to your glad reply.

You sweep me high
in pas de deux lifts
passionate, strong.

You dance my soul
in technicolour into yours
and fly my heart
upon the breeze.

I taste your river whispers
- oh sweet waters -
upon our lips
in repose from
rolling chosen rocks
for our cottage
warm, secure, but

this flood of yours
is ours to drink of
past eternity,
and I would marry you
in our brook stone cottage
or
frozen tundras
or
tropical storm
or
screaming traffic
or
industrial pollution
or
the very fires of Hell.

Diana

I really like this....the imagery, and then the last lines of declaration of love are beautiful!

Thank you Martie, Caroline and Kate.  I'm glad you enjoyed it.  This was in reply to an exquisite poem of his and the cottage was a much referred to symbol for a long while.  Needless to say (or maybe not), it all came to nothing in the end.

There are times when I do wish you lived in a "better" place....meaning safer, more peaceful, secure....but there are times when I wouldn't deny you a single instant or a single atom of the place where you are. Yep, this moment is one of those.

Thank you Linda-Earth Angel, your words (as usual) give me a warm fuzzy feeling!

Ed, I love your kind, understanding, concerned and compassionate reply.  I love where I live literally and metaphorically and wouldn't live anywhere else (literally & metaphorically), but I admit that I sometimes wish that it(l & m) was safer, more peaceful and secure.  However, it isn't as bad as it sometimes may seem (especially now that I have a high palisade fence, electric gate, electric garage door, security sensor lights and increased features to my burglar alarm).  The relationship I wrote about above gave me excrutiating pain, but also much beauty, and yes, you are so right, I wouldn't have missed a moment of it (at least years later in retrospect!) for I have grown as a result of it, and I know it was best for me that it didn't work out.

Your response... that you wouldn't have missed a minute of it... is a perfect coda... Some loves are for a while... some are for a lifetime... even if they don't work out, they are part of us... and we would be less without them. *S*

Beautiful poem... I love the ending!!!

your writings are always so profound, so filled with illuminaries of imagry...it is the heart that remembers, all that has blended us to identity.

remarkable!

Thanks, James - oh, I wouldn't and it is just as well for me that I wasn't required to then, after all, because I think I may just have done so!

It absolutely dances down the page like a running brook..
there is something so secure feeling about a stone cottage..
Wonderful write..so very much enjoyed.

Thank you Alli, iliana, Enchantress and Steven.  I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Enchantress, thank you for your kind words.  That was what I tried to do.  Yes, a stone cottage does feel secure.  That was probably why he came up with it in his original poem, the one to me, to which this poem is a reply.

Thank you Steven for the smile you gave me.
