tonight
at last
Trenise wanders into her home
moldy
water swollen
      Katrina water
she mutters
searching
for tiny memories
with wild eyes

from the marshes
and the gulf
come silenced whispers
tell them not to search
we are here

tell them to
celebrate for us tonight
with music
blessed music
and sweet smiles

And the saints....go marchin' in...

They do, you know....not just will, they do now, and we get to march with 'em for a little way, if we make the decision to.

This is amazingly written. It has so much information yet in a short poem. Wonderful topic and it definately makes you think about what all those people are going through right now.

This is a Kate masterpiece of Kate masterpieces!  Beautiful, sensitive, enigmatic, mystic, mysterious, haunting, microcosmic, macrocosmic, excellent!!!!!!  My favourite stanza is each of them.  My favourite-favourite-favourite stanza is the middle one.

Lady, my eyes fill with tears reading this.  It speaks from hope, heart, and heaven, to us.  I have been in awe watching life rise again through the grief and devastation in the wake of Katrina.   Music, the smiles, and the celebration...
miracles of the human spirit.

Your poem is stunning...heart felt.

Hugs,
Karen

Great poem on an important topic. The media and people as a whole seem to forget that repercussions of disasters they focused on as the flavour of the month (tsunami in sri lanka, earthquake in pakistan, and katrina) take years to disappear!
