Voice Of The River

Restlessly, my mind paces rhetorical questions
Caught in the clenched teeth of uncertainty
Stumbling a maze of hopes that bloom and wither
Wishing quiet would set down with the sun

Agape, the mouth falls open, and falters
As silence is the only voice the river hears
All that flows the banks, everything it fears
White the roar of sentimental rocks

Moving me along the ticking hours
Snag of drift wood arms drown in shallow flats
Too sharp to climb, yet pretending to wave
Scouring the deepest of my dreams in quest

Moving, ever moving ceaselessly, hungrily
Searching through the basil roots of willows
Mourning, heads bowed in honored tears
Filling up and spilling forth, left mute
